Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE for short) is a synthetic fluoropolymer of tetrafluoroethylene, a material with a Wide Variety of uses, but used as a gasketing material where resistance to aggressive chemicals is required. Its low coefficient of friction value also means it is used either in solid or as a coating in a number of bearing applications.
